Hiding Your Teeth? Consider the Options You Have to Achieve a Straight Smile

Last updated 7 years ago

A healthy, straight smile is one of the first features people notice. If the condition or alignment of your teeth is keeping you tight-lipped, then it may be time to contact your orthodontist or cosmetic dentist. Before you schedule a consultation, consider some of the options you have to achieve a straight smile.

  • Traditional Braces - Today’s braces are much less noticeable than the metal contraptions of previous generations. While metal braces are still used, many orthodontists offer clear brackets or brackets that are the same color as your teeth. Some offices even offer braces that attach behind the teeth (lingual braces) where they are not visible. Traditional braces are a great way to treat crooked teeth, gaps, overbites, under-bites, and cross-bites.
  • Invisalign - While traditional braces are a great way to straighten your teeth, they often take several years to achieve full results. Invisalign braces can typically realign your teeth within six months to a year. Using a series of clear aligners, Invisalign braces shift your teeth without the need for permanent metal hardware. The aligners are removable, so Invisalign braces also reduce the risk of tooth decay caused by poor oral hygiene.
  • Porcelain Veneers - You don’t necessarily need braces to fill gaps between your teeth. Using plastic materials or composite resin, porcelain veneers are a great way to enhance tooth shape and fill gaps between teeth without the use of long-term treatment.
  • Dental Implants - Sometimes a single tooth is all it takes to push your teeth out of alignment. When this occurs, your orthodontist may suggest a dental implant or crown rather than altering your entire oral structure.
