Who Can Benefit from Cosmetic Tooth Recontouring? | Smile Studio - Dr. Mal Braverman

Last updated 2 days 10 hours ago

Some people who have dental imperfections don't need extensive cosmetic dentistry services in order to achieve stunning smiles. With a simple visit to the cosmetic dentist, many patients can have small problems fixed with cosmetic tooth recontouring.

You may benefit from cosmetic tooth recontouring if you have:

    Long Teeth

If your teeth are overlong and make your mouth appear disproportionate, you may benefit from cosmetic tooth recontouring. This cosmetic dentistry procedure alters the length of teeth by gently removing layers of enamel. If your canine teeth or other front teeth are too long, ask your cosmetic dentist if tooth recontouring is right for you.

    Small Chips or Cracks

Teeth can become cracked or chipped through daily living; if you have a small defect in a tooth, recontouring can help. Your cosmetic dentist can simply file away the enamel where the chip is located, giving you a perfect smile again. You won't need to have dental veneers or other cosmetic services to correct the problem because tooth recontouring is often sufficient.

Pits or Grooves in the Enamel

If your teeth have grooves or pits in the enamel, a visit to the cosmetic dentist for tooth recontouring can remove these imperfections. Enamel can easily become grooved or pitted by consuming acidic foods and beverages. Recontouring is generally painless because it leaves the pulp unaffected, so it's incredibly easy to get the look you want.

    Irregular Tooth Shape

Some people's teeth are irregularly shaped or uneven because of the spacing or placement of the teeth. Cosmetic tooth recontouring can correct the shape or spacing of the teeth, which will in turn allow for easier oral hygiene and an improved overall appearance. Ask your cosmetic dentist if recontouring can be considered in your case instead of more invasive approaches.

At Smile Studio in NYC, we provide tooth recontouring and other effective cosmetic dentistry services. Our cosmetic dentist offers teeth whitening, dental implants, and veneers. Call (212) 845-9259 to schedule an appointment for a consultation and achieve the smile you’ve always wanted.

Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces | Smile Studio - Dr. Mal Braverman

    Last updated 8 days ago

If you are unhappy with your smile, you have a few options to get the straight, beautiful teeth you've always wanted. Your cosmetic dentist may recommend either Invisalign or traditional braces to move your teeth to the proper location and alignment. Read on to learn about the differences between traditional braces and Invisalign.

    Traditional Braces

Traditional braces are generally metal, but some can be made from a tooth-colored composite resin or ceramic, making them less noticeable. Brackets and wires are permanent for the duration of treatment and can't be removed until your dentist determines your teeth are in the proper position. Traditional braces can correct complex orthodontic issues.

The cost of metal braces is generally less than that of Invisalign. However, cleaning your teeth with brackets and wires in place can be tricky because you'll need to floss around each band, bracket, and wire. Food can get stuck in the brackets, and some foods, like hard or sticky candy, hard veggies, and gum, can break or damage the braces and are therefore prohibited. Nevertheless, traditional braces are the most effective option in certain cases.

    Invisalign

The Invisalign orthodontic system consists of a series of clear plastic trays that you change out yourself every few weeks until you achieve the results you and your dentist discussed. You can take out these trays in order to eat; because they are removable, you can easily maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing and flossing as you normally would. No one will be able to tell you are wearing braces with the Invisalign system, thanks to their virtually invisible appearance.

Invisalign isn't designed to fix complex dental problems. Some problems with placement and alignment of teeth can't be remedied with these trays. Invisalign is generally more expensive than traditional braces but doesn’t require as many visits to the dentist for adjustments.

If you live in NYC and are interested in either traditional braces or Invisalign, come to Smile Studio. Our cosmetic dentistry office provides the services you need, including dental implants, teeth whitening, and dental veneers. For an appointment, call us at (212) 845-9259 today.
